Maple leaf mayhem merchants don’t come any finer than London, Ontario’s Monkey See, they sum up everything that was great about rock music in the eighties that has been so sadly missed in the nineties. But that’s not to say that these guys are stuck in a time warp, the music stands the test of time and can hold it’s own against any release in the same genre.

This entertaining six-piece band originally released their first single “Life’s A Beach” to overwhelming accolade and it gained them local radio station success in a “Battle Of The Bands” competition., defeating such bands as Honeymoon Suite and Guns & Roses. The single eventually reached number 12 on CKSL’s top forty chart and received extensive airplay on many other radio stations across the country. Their second single “Living In Twilight” was also a great success, a song featured on this album.

So we are brought up to date and this, their self-titled album, is produced by Peter Brennan (who also produced the classic EP by Equus). Originally intended for the Japanese market only, it was decided to press for Europe due to popular request. One listen is all that is needed to have you hooked, just listen to “Tough Guys” for a classic rock anthem laden with hooks, a hybrid of Legs Diamond and April Wine.... How about songs “Was It The Woman”, “It’s You” and “Silently She Cries”, fans of the Coney Hatch sound should fall over themselves to buy this album. Lead Vocalist David Rusland has a voice to die for and the finished album is built for mass AOR worship. The nineties needs a melodic kick in the butt, Monkey See is that kick.
