Vocalist Joey Dia is a guy heavily influenced by bands like Poison, Skid Raw and Kiss, and keyboards player Kadin, has a more jazzy & classical composer background. Dia and Kadin started to search for new band members to join Aftermath; they already knew drummer Marc Chandler, who was working in a music store next to their rehearsal room. Marc, basically coming more from heavy roots, finally completed the new line-up together with an old friend of Joey’s, extraordinary guitarist Bill DiNapoli, who basically likes the same style as Dia. The band immediately started to rehearse after the line-up was completed and performed their first live club performance only two months later. After a lot of hard work the new album is finally set for release! England’s finest Pete Coleman, a man who certainly knows how to mix an album, crafted the final touches. Natural Destruction is an album that combines elements of hard rock bands like Skid Raw and Kiss and combines them with the finesse and majesty of Savatage. So you have powerful guitar chords that demolish your speakers, but with a good helping of keyboards….and great harmonies. After an interesting introduction the bone crunching “It’s not real” pounds you into submission, with in-your-face guitars and swirling, effective keyboards. Vocalist Dia has such a powerful voice; this quartet can really play a tight set. “Ain’t no Pretty love song” is set in the same mould and it becomes apparent how strong a guitarist the band have in Bill DiNapoli. His solo on this cut is devastating, an absolute stunning display of fretwork. He shows of his prowess in a different manner, together with Dia on “Loving You”, with soft strumming and blistering breaks, the harmony vocals on this song are just perfect. “For Being You” is a song that gives Kadin a chance to fight back with some rich keyboards, whilst drummer Chandler has to provide a solid backbone to proceedings. “The Rich get Richer” is a song that belts along with the now-established trademark of the band. These guys sure know how to rock! The Aftermath formula of heavy guitar chords that hold lots of melody has now became something to expect, the structure of “Better Days” will have you begging for more of the same. This song simply states everything with a thundering guitar riff backed with a magical array of keyboards and haunting lead vocals. It’s not over yet, songs like “Tired”, “Behind these eyes” and “Pain of the memory” are all there to be admired, the songs just keep coming and they just get better. This is one great album, an album that holds its own originality from start to finish. Aftermath are here, they are going to rock you hard with their own brand of music. “Natural Destruction” is a natural progression forward in this intricate world of rock music; this is one album that can not be ignored. |
