Ashes to Ashes are a three piece out of Pittsburgh; USA and they are going to hit you hard with their brand of rock music. They are very polished and professional, and difficult to categorize. Some would say loud rock, some hard pop, it doesn't really matter as Ashes to Ashes are very active and talented and will have you hooked like a fish. The cornerstone of the band are bassist Ed Beeler and songwriter Andy Bell, the line-up is completed by the addition of Dave Campbell on drums. They have honed their music to solid perfection, combining infectious, catchy hooks with a modern rock sound that have the pop appeal of Cheap Trick and the aggression of Collective Soul. This is high-energy music with mass commercial appeal.

Opening track "Dead Wrong" is a fine way to start, with a bludgeoning riff driving the song ever forward. This is no-nonsense rock with attitude. These three men have perfected their harmonies and know how to turn out simply great songs with ease, just check out the song "I will make you mine" for further convincing evidence. Or what about "Death Groove", which is a haunting song featuring pounding bass and drums, clever vocals and subtle use of keyboards. The band are not ones to use keyboards as a feature in the overall sound, but when they do it's a subtle touch to bring out the best in their brand of power rock. One listen to "Darkside" and you will be drawn into the song as if hypnotized by it's razor sharp guitar riffs and that effective use of keys. Play this song over and over again and you will hear something different every time..the same applies to "Underground", a song that is dominated by that infectious offbeat drumming. You will be listening to those percussion arrangements for the rest of your life and still feel as if you want to play it again.and again. Ashes to Ashes seem to have a knack of turning out magical songs that build round a simple theme and seduce you with their melodies. "Radio Red", for example, is so clever musically and lyrically, full credit to the song-writing abilities of Andy Bell. Although the band are more at home with powerful rock, there is always room for a slower song and "Bury me" fits the bill just perfectly. However, it's not long before we move back to the tried and tested formula in songs like "Maybe you kill" and "Wetter" (check out those vocals!) that Ashes to Ashes have perfected so well. That formula is their very own and it's rock with attitude, as they say in their own song "If Rocking is a crime, then we're guilty as sin"!

Ashes to Ashes are here and they are going to be here for a while. The debut album "Darker Side" is going to be a milestone in rock music.
